I love my IBM Selectric I, although I don't use it as often as I expected to. The thing is just so damned big. It's an experience not to be missed, though. So much result from so little effort. Like driving a massive Mercedes 520 SEL with that feather-light steering. There's nothing quite like the machine-gun sound of a Selectric when you're whipping through 120 words per minute.
I wouldn't get it :) I would stick with mechanical typewriters - I am not sure that you will be able to sell it easily and if space is a problem think about possibly getting something else once you get to Boston !
